This guiro is also made from a gourd. The decoration on it has been burned into the wood with an electric needle - woodburning. The design contains the map of the island and other local monuments. I bought this guiro and matching maracas in old San Juan, Puerto Rico during a Southern Caribbean Cruise in December 1999.
