Lyre - Tanzania

Purchased in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, 1964

From Graciela's Notes

It is a small round sitar with a cowhide covered frame. It has five strings attached to tuning pegs. It doesn’t have a bridge so as the strings are plucked they resonate on the leather and make the different sounds. I bought this small instrument in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, Africa while on Safari in December 1964.
