Membranophone - Frame Drum - Mexico

Purchased in Copper Canyon, Mexico, 1998
From
Graciela's Notes
This hand-held drum, that comes in various
sizes, is used by the Tarahumara Indians in the Northern part of
Mexico. This area is known as El Canon del Cobre (Copper Canyon)
which is now a very popular tourist destination. This
twelve-inch drum has typical symbolic designs and has a nice
sound. The Indians use the drums, along with the
violin/fiddle, to accompany the dancers. Drums set the beat for
the dances. I bought the drums – all three of them –
during a visit to the Tarahumara Region of Copper Canyon in
November 1998.
