Pas-ing -
Phillipines

Purchased in the Phillipine Islands, 1966

From
Graciela's Notes
This instrument is classified
as a bamboo "guitar." It always has strings made of
the outer skin of the bamboo. Most of the pas-ing
native instruments have a hole or two cut under the
string that serve as an airhole for resonance. It is
played by beating with a stick. This one has three
strings that are very close together. It is made by
the Apayaos in one of the islands of the
Philippines. Instruments made of bamboo are very
popular and numerous in the Philippines. Bought in
the Philippine Islands sometime in1966.
