For
Applicants with Master’s Degrees
1. Evidence of a master’s degree in psychology
or a closely related discipline of at least 45 semester
hours from a regionally accredited institution must
be presented. Applicants who have earned a master’s
degree of less than 45 semester hours or in a field
other than psychology may apply but should expect to
do leveling coursework in addition to the doctoral requirements.
2. A cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher
in the master’s program is required.
3. Official transcripts from all colleges/universities
attended, including junior and community colleges must
be submitted.
4. A satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination
(GRE) Verbal and Quantitative tests taken within the
last five years must be submitted.
5. A satisfactory score on the Graduate Record Examination
Psychology subject test taken within the last five years
must be submitted.
6. Submit three letters of recommendation from professionals,
with at least one from a former professor who can attest
to the applicant’s promise as a professional psychologist.
7. The applicant must have pertinent professional experience.
8. A personal statement of background in psychology
and expectations of doctoral program must be submitted.
9. Admission file must be complete by the deadline.
For Applicants with Bachelor’s Degrees
TOP
1. Evidence is required of a bachelor’s degree
in psychology or a closely related discipline from a
regionally accredited institution with a cumulative
grade point average of 3.5 or higher, or 3.75 or higher
for last 60 hours, or 3.75 or higher for courses in
psychology major.
2. At least 18 undergraduate semester hours in psychology
is required including courses in: Statistics, Research
Methods, Social Psychology, Developmental, Abnormal,
Counseling Skills or Personality Theories.
3. Official transcripts from all colleges/universities
attended, including junior and community colleges must
be submitted.
4. A combined score of at least 1000 on the Graduate
Record Examination (GRE) Verbal and Quantitative tests
taken within the last five years must be submitted.
5. A score of at least 520 on the GRE Psychology subject
test taken within the last five years must be submitted.
6. Three letters of recommendation must be submitted
from professionals, with at least one from a former
professor who can attest to the applicant’s promise
as a professional psychologist.
7. Present evidence of pertinent practica, volunteer
or work experience.
8. Personal statement of background in psychology and
expectations of doctoral program must be submitted.
9. Admission file must be complete by the deadline.
DEADLINE:
New students are admitted once a year (to enroll in
the Fall). All admission materials must be received
no later than January 15.

PsyD Applicants
For the last five years, the acceptance rate for the
PsyD program has averaged 45%. The applicant pool has
ranged from 18-30 students annually. From this group
5-8 students are selected for admission into the program
each year. The attrition rate over the last five years
has been 12%.
Currently, of the students in the program 36% are racial
or ethnic minorities and 71% are women. They range in
age from 24-50. Their average GRE Verbal score is 510
and the average GRE Quantitative Score is 500.
