Master of Arts in Sociology with Emphasis in Sociological Practice

The Program

The Department of Sociology offers a professional graduate program leading to a master of arts (MA) degree in Sociology with emphasis in Sociological Practice.

Coursework stresses training in the sociological practice perspective while giving insight into the ethical use of sociological knowledge and research skills. Classroom use of case studies provides a distinctive approach to learning.

The program gives students the ability to analyze the social dimensions of organizational and community problems. Graduates will be trained to work with private corporations, government agencies, community organizations and research groups. Those who complete the program will have the necessary sociological insight to assist in the positive transformation of the community.

Part of the innovative nature of the program is that it is offered through the Weekend Degree Program. The WDP operates on a trimester system. All classes are offered either on Saturday or Sunday. Full-time students take two courses each trimester making possible the completion of the program in two years.
